Experience

It is an experience that will stay with me for the rest of my life, for many reasons. We learned the culture of many different people We respected and loved the Indonesian people. We were invited into their homes, sat at their tables, and ate their delicious food. Never knew rice could taste so good. ha At the time we were there we didn’t have t.v., we had to make our own fun, and boy did we ever do that. There were dinner parties, dances, talent shows, casino nite, video nites at the club, volley ball, tennis, baseball, squash, the womens club, or just women getting together to sew or learn new recipes. We were never bored, our kids, Deron, Jason and Josh were happy, doing their own thing. In 1977 I had a baby girl, Kessie by a mid-wife at the ole hospital, was served pork-n-beans every morning for breakfast while in the hospital for seven days. That was the rule at that time in Tembagapura to stay 7 days after having a baby. The nurses were great, and made me feel special. All the Indonesian people had a way about them to always make you feel welcome, and loved in their country. We loved our time we spent there, what a blessing it was in our lives! Because of our experiences there, our lives are different.

Experience

It is true, just the mere fact that we lived there makes us unique. There’s a certain twinkle in the eyes of those who have lived in Tembagapura. Maybe it’s the water, or the location, or how high it is from sea level, or the experiences we encountered…or maybe its the magic of that jewel of a town…nested in beautiful rainforests and majestic mountains. Whatever it is, I will never forget Tembagapura or that bond it has created among the people who have called it home. There’s always that dull pain in my heart whenever I think about Tembagapura. Mostly because I know things will never be the same again. And I sometimes think that my friends around me are so lucky cause they grew up in their birthplace — they never had to leave it. But then, they also never experienced Tembagapura…

Experience

Tembagapura is a strange, wonderful, magical memory I can always fall back on when times get tough (…and when they don&amp#39;t, for that matter). Sometimes I look back and wonder if it was just figment of my imagination. There, I made the best of friends, had the funnest of times, and had the most amazing experiences any person could have in a lifetime. I grew up in that little town nestled in the middle of nowhere. Had to get through the good times and bad times, not to mention the boredom and wet weather… At the time, I wanted so much to see the rest of the real world, but now that I&amp#39;m out and about, sometimes I wish I could go back into the seclusion of the jungles of Tembagapura. It has contributed to a large part of who I am today because of the people I met and the experiences I had. I wouldn&amp#39;t trade any of it for the world. Here&amp#39;s to the craziest, funnest, best childhood any person could ask for. 😉

I lived in Tembagapura since 1980. I am one of the 1996 YPJ (Yayasan Pendidikan Jayawijaya) alumnies. Tembagapura is the BEST place to live. The thing that I like the most about Tembagapura is the environment and the Papuans! Man…. I miss going home!

Experience

Having grown up in Tembagapura, I could not have asked for a better childhood. The jungle was my back yard and it was all I had ever known. Tembagapura was a place that I knew every single nook and cranny, but there was always plenty more to explore. Growing up with my family and an abundance of friends in such a care free environment has made me realize what a special place it was. My friends today cannot even grasp or begin to imagine Tembagapura. The diversity and environment are a combination found nowhere else on the globe. I cannot describe the whole experience of living in Tembagapura because it is my background and I feel as if it is always with me. I know that living there has given me a greater view of this world and how to live in it.
